Lagos APC, PDP In War Of Words Over Ownership Of Newly Opened ‘Tallest’ Hotel. The Lagos State chapter of All ProgressivesCongress (APC) has challenged the PeoplesDemocratic Party (PDP) in the state to apopularity contest by mobilizing Lagosiansagainst Governor Babatunde Fashola if theycan.Lagos PDP had in a statement on Mondaysigned by its publicity secretary, Taofik Ganiasked Governor Babatunde Fashola to declarehis assets just as it alleged that Fasholaowned substantial shares in the newlycommissioned N30 billion IntercontinentalHotel at Victoria Island. But the ruling party, APC’s interim publicitysecretary, Joe Igbokwe said if the oppositionparty attempts to mobilize Lagosians againstFashola, there is no doubt the people ofLagos will surely meet them on the streets. In a press statement on Wednesday signedby Mr. Igbokwe, APC said it is the height ofirresponsibility for PDP to engage indisingenuous lie peddling just because itlongs for a political position it can neverattain through honest means. The statement advised Lagosians to treat thestate PDP as an unserious bunch of gossips, who have shown no knowledge of governingLagos besides salivating on how to milkLagos.“It is horrifying, indeed, highly alarming thata party should shamelessly engage in suchdubious, irresponsible and callous peddling ofpuerile lies for the dubious profit it aims toharvest from this. The ownership ofIntercontinental Hotel is The Milan Group, which is a reputable company with longhistory of doing business and a verifiablecompany and ownership structure.”The statement further explained that thehotel, which is the tallest in thecountry, attracted some support from theLagos State Government and Wema Bankand wondered how it translates to Fasholaowning 60 per cent of the hotel. The party warned PDP that nothing will saveit from final extinction as it has nothing tooffer Nigerians after 14 years in power.-Daily Trust
